The highlights of Leuven

Discover the historic highlights of Leuven with a short 3.9 km walk amongst the historic buildings, or follow a longer round trip of 5 km that takes you along the Vaartkom as well. Once on the Vaartkom, stroll past the enchanting white houses of the Small Beguinage and stop in at De Hoorn, where the very first glass of Stella beer was brewed in 1926.

Can’t get enough of Leuven after this walk? Then extend your walk with a 4.5 km stroll through the Campus Arenberg area. Or add a round trip of 5.8 km to your walk to visit Park Abbey. Leave the commotion of the city behind as you walk through the centuries-old gateway into phenomenal nature. Highly recommended if you wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

On a trip with kids

Leuven offers plenty of options for outings with the kids as well. At Saint Peter's Church for instance, where a number of stories and games within a pretty do-it-yourself booklet take you along a few of the church’s masterpieces, at your own pace and depending on your preferences.

Refuel with a delicious grilled ham and cheese toastie or pancake after your walk, or enjoy some lunch at one of the other child-friendly lunch spots. Next, pay a visit to museum M Leuven, which caters to all ages. End your day at a cosy hotel or B&B, just right for your family.

Beer tours

Would you rather skip the walk and go straight for the beer? No worries! Leuven is home to Stella as well as a range of other local beers.

Do the guided BeerWalk to explore Leuven in three hours while learning how to taste beer like a pro. Discover hidden pubs and forgotten little breweries and enjoy as many as five tastings. As a souvenir, you will receive an official BeerWalk tasting glass.

If you prefer to explore on your own, just take a digital tour available on Google Maps. Explore authentic folk pubs, modern beer cafes, historic sites and breweries. The tour comes packed with interesting beer facts and exciting bar stories. Cheers!
