HAL 5 in Kessel-Lo is an old warehouse that now houses various food concepts and social organisations. Take a seat on the convivial terrace and order a pizza from Antico and a drink from the bar.
The number one address for Leuven’s student population. Affordable, tasty food, a gigantic terrace and a cute concept: the food is served in a lunch box just like those used by workers on a construction site.
Bar Florida is one of the latest hotspots along the river. The bar has a cool, trendy interior and a lovely terrace alongside the water. Try their scrumptious pitas and order an original beer.
Alfons Street Food
Alfons Smetsplein occupies a central location between the university’s various auditoriums. Students regularly stop by here to order something to eat from one of the food stalls on the square. Our favourite: Damasco’s Syrian specialities are a really good deal!
If you’re looking for some truly superb spaghetti, Viavia in Heverlee is your go-to restaurant. Their other dishes are also delicious and exotic, but a bit more expensive. Their cosy terrace is also a terrific plus point!
On the corner of Sint-Maartensdal you will find Alfalfa: a great little place that offers healthy snacks with an interesting twist. A must for lovers of falafel and halloumi.
The Vietnamese restaurant Banh Mi Ah Quy is located to the rear of Alfons Smetsplein. We are big fans of their Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) and home-made spring rolls. Cheap and delicious!
Looking for an affordable vegetarian meal? You’ve come to the right place at Het Strand. Take a seat among the plants and make your selection from their 100% vegetarian menu.
This is one of the better fries stalls in Leuven, and one of the few still located in a genuine “barracks”. After all, you can’t possibly take a city trip in Belgium without ordering a serving of fries!
This deli and butcher’s shop is, without a doubt, the best sandwich shop in all of Leuven. Come on time because the queue can get pretty long around lunchtime! The friendly staff make it worth the wait.
