Leuven in top 5 van European Best Destination 2022

Leuven is met maar liefst 48.000 stemmen uit 77 landen verkozen tot één van de vijf topbestemmingen van Europa in 2022 en mag nu officieel de titel ‘European Best Destination’ dragen. Deze lijst met de beste toeristische bestemmingen in Europa wordt jaarlijks samengesteld door European Best Destinations (EBD) en EDEN Network, een initiatief van de Europese Commissie.

Dankzij de bijna 48.000 stemmen van vele Leuvenaars en iedereen met een hart voor de stad, eindigt Leuven in de top vijf. “Dat Leuven zo’n schitterend resultaat behaalt maakt mij erg trots” zegt burgemeester Mohamed Ridouani. “Ik wil iedereen die op onze stad gestemd heeft dan ook uitdrukkelijk bedanken.”

With 48,000 votes from 77 countries, Leuven is chosen as one of the top five destinations to visit in Europe in 2022 and now has the official title of 'European Best Destination'. This list of the best tourist destinations in Europe is compiled annually by European Best Destinations (EBD) and EDEN Network, an initiative of the European Commission.

Thanks to the almost 48,000 votes by many Leuven residents and everyone with a heart for the city, Leuven ended up in the top five. "That Leuven achieves such a brilliant result makes me very proud" says Mayor Mohamed Ridouani. "I would like to thank everyone who voted for our city.”
