Travelling to Leuven

Leuven is very easily accessible. The trains will bring you comfortably from the neighbouring countries straight to the heart of our university city. You can be there in less than 2.5 hours. There’s also a quick train connection between Brussels Airport and Leuven. Are you coming by coach? Then drop your passengers off in the historic city centre and easily find parking in one of the city’s peripheral car parks.

Leuven train station

The train is a fast, environmentally friendly way to travel. The comfortable Thalys, Eurostar, ICE, and TGV high-speed trains will get you from the neighbouring countries to the centre of Leuven in practically no time at all.

International trains arrive in Brussels-South or in Liège. From there, you can take a national train to Leuven (approx. 25 minutes). If you buy a ticket all the way to Leuven, then this national train ride is also included in the ticket.

Brussels Airport welcomes approximately 200 direct flights per day. You can reach Leuven in no time at all thanks to the fast train connection from the airport.

Cabs are standing by outside the arrivals hall at the airport. A cab ride from Brussels Airport to Leuven costs around €50 to €65.


Rector de Somerplein

Leuven’s historic city centre has been a pedestrian-only zone since 2016. So you cannot use a GPS within the ring road.

Access road to the drop-off/pick-up zone: Bondgenotenlaan

You may drop off and pick up your group at the Dirk Boutslaan stop, close to Saint Peter’s Church. You are required to have an access permit. Take the Bondgenotenlaan as your access road to the city (see map below).

You may only drive in the pedestrian zone if you have an access permit. Request your free access permit from toegangsvergunning@leuven.be (at least 3 days in advance). The permit is valid for one year.

Parking at a peripheral car park

After dropping off your passengers, you can park the coach at one of Leuven’s peripheral car parks. The following peripheral car parks have bus parking spaces:

  • Bodart car park
  • Engels Plein
  • De Lijn depot (Diestsepoort)
  • Philipssite
