- Bike Ride Along the Leuven Canal
As mentioned before, the temperatures in Leuven during the Fall are really lovely. Going for a bike ride along the Leuven canal is another great activity to do to get some fresh air and enjoy the changing colors of the season. The Leuven canal is lined with tall trees that show off their vibrant colors during the Fall.
After a nice bike ride, we recommend taking a break at Madmums Cafe for a warm cup of coffee and a delicious pastry in the Vaartkom area near the Leuven canal. You can find the cafe at Vaartkom 33, 3000 Leuven.
- Book a Stella Artois Brewery Tour
Nothing says Autumn like the delicious smell of malt coming from the Stella Artois factory. Leuven is lucky to be the home of THE primary Stella Artois brewery and they offer tours. The tours run on Saturdays at 15:00 in English. Book your spot in advance for this amazing experience. On the tour, you’ll learn about the process of brewing beer and even get to taste some too!
- Arenberg Castle Tour
Step back in time when you visit the famous Arenberg Castle. This historic building is a part of the KU Leuven campus and is full of a bustling student population during the Fall semester. Located in a vast green space, Autumn is the perfect time to visit the castle to see the Fall colors changing.
Kid Friendly Activities to do in the Fall
- Stroll Through the Park Abbey
The Park Abbey makes for a great family outing and is one of the most beautiful places to visit during the Autumn season in Leuven. Enjoy a stroll through the historic Abbey that has been untouched since the 12th century.
There is a very easy and kid friendly walk around the lake that takes about 30 minutes to complete. It’s also buggy friendly, so there’s room for the entire family to join! The many trees and bird life make for the perfect Autumn walk through crunch leaves and Fall colors.
For children ages 6-10, there is a fun scavenger hunt they can participate in. Just be sure to make a reservation at the Park Abbey reception. This activity is free for the whole family!
Getting to the Park Abbey
From the city center, the Park Abbey is about a 10 minute bike ride. Renting and riding a bike in Leuven is very simple and a great way to get around the city. If you prefer to take public transport to the Abbey, that is also a very simple option. Click here to see which bus routes go to the Abbey.
- Self Guided Street Art Tour
The city of Leuven has abundant amounts of incredible street art. A nice Autumn day is a wonderful time to take a self guided tour to visit as many street art murals as you can! Our recommendation? Download the free Street Art Cities App to get a full view of each painting with information about the artist and mural. You can also pick up a street art brochure at the Tourism center that maps out a walk in Leuven to guide you. Take a photo in front of your favorite murals with the family and be sure to tag #visitleuven in your social media posts so we can see your photos!
- Event Calendar
Each month, Leuven publishes a new event calendar for upcoming activities happening in the city. Be sure to check it out during the time you’re visiting Leuven. There might be some performances or events you’d be interested in! You can also pick up the calendar at our visitors center where our staff can give you plenty of tips about kid friendly activities and hotspots.
